![]() This was the first game I felt was too short and sparse. At some instinctive level, Slay the Spire doesn't feel as good as the othrr roguelikes I've played (and I've played a lot of them).Įdit: Here are the roguelikes I've played and loved. With Slay the Spire, I kept running into the same ten or so events again and again. Here you have just 3 starting characters, and all three have the same basic card set (5 attack cards, 5 defense cards, a few flavor cards thrown in).Īnd FTL has tons of events and weapons to keep things fresh. That game has so many ships you can start with, and that provides tons of starting variety. Yeah, the content of Slay the Spire somehow feels more repetitive than other roguelikes. But boy do I wish I could buy a DLC that gave me more acts and more characters. I had to make more than 20 runs to see the end in either of those. Roguelikes like Nuclear Throne and Rogue Legacy felt both more difficult and more content rich to me. I'm sure there's new game+ material, and perhaps even a hidden higher act, but that still feels a bit disappointing. So now I'm thinking- was that it? I beat the entire game in 3 runs, and it just felt weird. ![]() I beat the last boss with zero health lost (get lots of frost orbs, keep upgrading your focus, and keep using Loop. I thought that since I hadn't unlocked the best cards for any of these characters (there are five levels, apparently), it would take me atleast ten more runs to get to the end.īut not only is Act 3 the end, but as it turns out, the robot is super broken and abusable. With the new character I got to the Act 3 boss and died (I didn't really enjoy playing as this character, to be honest).Īnd then I unlocked the robot. Got to Act 3, died, and unlocked the poison character. I started playing today with the default character. ![]() So I picked up this game after hearing a lot of praise, and it's definitely a well-made game.
